On April 21-24, 2016 Benedictine Sisters, age 55 and under, gathered from regions all over the United States and Mexico at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, IN. Participants came from member monasteries of the Federation of St. Scholastica, the Federation of St. Gerturude, and the Federation of St. Benedict as well as from Congregation of Perpetual Adoration and the Missionary Benedictines of Norfolk, NE. The presidents from the three federations and the prioress from the Missionary Benedictines were also present. The theme of the gathering was "New Wineskins" and the primary discussion topics were about collaboration as Benedictine labora and the use of technology in collaboration and relationship-building.
The Sisters of Monasterio Pan de Vida in Torreon, Mexico elected Sister Maricarmen Bracamontes as their second prioress since their foundation in 1996. Since then Sistr Patricia Henry has served the community as prioress with much care, grace, dedication, and wisdom. The canonical election was presided over by Sister Lynn Marie McKenzie, federation president.
The Benedictine Sisters of Cullman had their ordinary Visitation March 10 - 13, 2016 with Visitators Sister Susan Quaintance from Chicago and Sister Glenna Smith from Bristow, VA. A great spirit of joy and anticipation filled the weekend as the community looks to the future with new vision after ten long years of planning and renovation activities. The image of the St. Scholastica statue "Release," commissioned for the community's 100th anniversary in 2002, provided a central theme through the self-study and visitation process. St. Lucy's Priory in Glendora, CA held their canonical election February 26-28, 2016. Sister Elizabeth Brown was re-elected as prioress. Sister Lynn Marie McKenzie, Federation President, presided at the election with Sister Joan Marie Sasse as Secretary and SisterS Patricia Schneider and Mary Daniel McGinn as Tellers.
